Anonymous chat with strangers
RandomHey is an anonymous chat in the plainest sense: no account, no name, no email address, no phone number and no profile. You pick text or video, confirm you are an adult, and you are talking to one random person. They see your messages, or your camera if you chose video, and nothing else about you.
This page explains exactly what “anonymous” means here, because it is not the same as untraceable. If you know what is and is not private, you can keep it that way.
What the other person sees
| Detail | Text chat | Video chat |
|---|---|---|
| Your name, email, phone or profile | Nothing exists to show | Nothing exists to show |
| Your IP address | Never | Never: video goes through our media server, not directly between browsers |
| Your face and voice | No camera or microphone is requested | Yes, once you allow the camera. You see your own preview first |
| Your country | No | A flag from your connection, unless you tick “Hide my country” |
| Shared interest or language | Only that you share one, if you both chose it | Only that you share one, if you both chose it |
| Anything you type or say | Yes. This is where anonymity is usually lost | Yes, including what is visible behind you |
What anonymous does not mean
- It is not untraceable. If you type your name, your school, a photo or your social handle, the other person has it, and you cannot take it back.
- Short technical records exist. A random anonymous identity and a session cookie keep you connected and make blocks work. Your IP address is used for about ten minutes to limit repeated session attempts and is not saved in our database. Chat, session and moderation records are kept for 14 days, report details for 30 days. The privacy notice lists all of it.
- Reports are read by people. If someone reports you and includes the last messages, a moderator reads them. That is what makes anonymous chat usable for everyone else.
- Your country is worked out from your connection. In video it is shown as a flag unless you hide it. With a VPN, the VPN’s country is shown.
Anonymous text chat or anonymous video chat?
Text is the more anonymous of the two. Your camera and microphone are never requested, nobody can see or hear you, and the only thing that can identify you is what you choose to type. Links are not clickable and files cannot be sent, which closes a common route for scams. Messages are plain text up to 2,000 characters.
Video shows your face and your voice to one person for as long as the chat lasts. Calls are not recorded and pass through our media server over encrypted connections, so the other person never sees your IP address. You see your own preview before anyone is connected, you can mute or turn the camera off at any time, and you can hide your country flag. Check what is behind you before you start.
How to stay anonymous in a random chat
- Never share your full name, address, school, workplace, phone number, email or social media.
- Do not send photos of yourself, and in video check what your camera shows behind you.
- Talk about interests and opinions, not the specifics of your life. A great chat needs neither.
- If someone asks you to move to another app, that is a request to give up your anonymity. Say no.
- Anyone who asks for money, gift cards or pictures: end the chat and report it.
- Use Block the moment a chat feels wrong. It ends the chat and stops any rematch.

How matching works without a profile
There is nothing to fill in. You can add up to five interests, up to three languages and a goal, and matching prefers people who share them, but all of it is optional. Similar words count as the same interest, and after about 20 seconds waiting time comes first so nobody waits forever. Details are on how matching works.
Anonymous chat questions
Is RandomHey really anonymous?
You never give a name, email address, phone number or photo, and the other person sees no username, profile, IP address or account identifier. Anonymous does not mean untraceable: what you type or show on camera can identify you, and a few technical records exist for short periods to run the service and handle reports.
Do I need to sign up for anonymous chat?
No. There is no account or profile. You confirm you are 18 or older, pick text or video, and you are matched with someone.
Can the other person find me again?
No. There are no profiles, friend lists, followers or search. When a chat ends it ends, and blocking someone means you are never matched again in either direction.
Is anonymous video chat possible?
Yes, in the sense that nobody knows who you are unless you tell or show them. In video the other person sees your camera and hears your microphone, plus your country as a flag unless you tick “Hide my country”. If you want nobody to see you at all, use text chat.
Are chats saved?
Video is not recorded. Text messages sit in a short-lived buffer of at most 100 messages and are deleted within five minutes of the chat ending, unless you submit a report and choose to include an excerpt for a moderator.
Does the site log my IP address?
Your IP address is used for about ten minutes to limit repeated attempts to start a session. It is not saved in our database and our web server logs do not record it. The other person never sees it.
Is anonymous chat safe?
No random chat can guarantee safety. Here, Report and Block are always visible, reports are reviewed by people, and the service is for adults only. The rest is up to you: keep your name, location, contact details and photos to yourself.
Adults only (18+). Read the community guidelines and safety features and their limits before you start.
