Not recorded, not peer-to-peer
Calls are not recorded. Video and audio travel over encrypted connections through our media server, not directly between browsers, so the other person never sees your IP address. They are not end-to-end encrypted.
If your camera does not start
If access was blocked, allow it in your browser’s site settings and try again. If another app is using your camera, close it first. You can always use random text chat instead.

Text or video: you pick how visible you are
Text asks nothing of your camera. Video shows your face and your voice. Each mode has its own queue, so choosing video means you only meet people who also chose video.
Interests nudge the match, they do not lock it
Type “guitar” and we look for someone who typed it too. Similar words count, like “soccer” and “football”. If nobody matches, you still meet someone instead of waiting forever.
Nobody waits forever
We look at the people who have waited longest. After about 20 seconds, waiting time comes first. You see how long you have waited, and we may offer to widen your preferences, but never do it for you.
You won’t meet the same person again right away
Press Next and we avoid pairing you with that person again for a few minutes. Block them and you are never matched again, in either direction.

Reviewed by people
Moderators read reports and can restrict accounts; restricted users can appeal. There is no automated video or audio moderation, so Report and Block are always one tap away.

What should I do if a chat feels unsafe?
Press Block to end it at once, or Report to send it to a moderator. Never share your name, address, phone number or social media. If someone is in danger, contact local emergency services.
Does a real person read my report?
Yes. Reports are reviewed by people. You can include the last text messages so a moderator can read them. Video is not recorded, so video reports rely on your description.
Is my chat recorded or kept?
Calls are not recorded. Text messages are kept only briefly (at most five minutes after a chat ends) unless you include them in a report.
